Single Color Kit

Our Single Color Kit is the foundational kit designed to demonstrate how CRISPR can be employed in a visually engaging way. This kit uses dCas9 (deactivated Cas9) to repress the expression of a single chromoprotein, allowing users to see the results of CRISPR action in real-time. The kit includes a control reaction featuring one color—whether it’s red, yellow, blue, or another vibrant chromoprotein—followed by reactions with on-targeting and off-targeting gRNAs (guide RNAs). The repression of a specific orthogonal chromoprotein can be easily observed, making this kit an ideal introduction to CRISPR for beginners.

Dual Color Kit

Our Dual Color Kit is a more advanced kit designed to provide an interactive and visually captivating experience. Using dCas9 (deactivated Cas9), this kit represses the expression of both red and yellow chromoproteins, allowing users to see the power of CRISPR in action. The kit includes control reactions that showcase each color independently, as well as both colors together (orange). Subsequent reactions highlight how specific genes can be selectively repressed by their corresponding gRNAs, and when both red and yellow gRNAs are applied simultaneously, the solution turns transparent as both colors cannot be expressed. This kit is a perfect extension for AP Biology and Biotechnology classes in high schools, and an excellent introduction for university-level biology courses.

Melanin Kit

Our Melanin Kit is an exciting new addition that combines CRISPR technology with synthetic biology and metabolism. This kit offers a hands-on, interactive experience where users can manipulate the production of melanin, a crucial biological pigment. Using dCas9 (deactivated Cas9), the kit represses the production of the tyrosinase enzyme, which is essential for melanin synthesis. Designed to engage students in understanding the metabolic pathways behind melanin production, this kit is ideal for exploring complex biological concepts like enzyme activity, gene regulation, and metabolic control. It is an excellent fit for advanced high school biology and biotechnology courses, as well as introductory university-level biology labs.
